(Gisou inspired blog post)
This blog post was written as part of a conceptual campaign for Gisou, a honey-infused beauty brand. I created an editorial piece to accompany a shimmer-infused line with SPF protection, titled the Golden Hour Collection, designed to merge glamour with everyday sun safety.

As summer approaches and the days get longer, we all want that golden glow, but that desire should not come at the cost of our skin’s health. As much as we love the sun, it can be very damaging.
At Gisou, we believe that beauty and care go hand in hand. That’s why we created the Golden Hour Collection: five honey-infused beauty essentials designed to give you a shimmering, healthy glow without compromising your skin and hair. Because glowing skin should feel just as good as it looks, especially under the summer sun.
So, carry on reading below to find out how you can glow safely and beautifully all season long!
Why Is The Sun so Bad
Of course, many of us love the sun, it boosts are mood and gives us a natural dose of vitamin D. But without proper protection, its rays do more harm than good. When understanding these rays, they can be classified into three categories: UVA, UVB and UVC.
UVA rays penetrate deeply into the skin, contributing to premature ageing, eye damage, and long-term skin concerns like cancer. These rays aren’t filtered by the atmosphere, which means they reach us all year round.
UVB rays, while partially blocked by the Earth’s atmosphere, are responsible for sunburns and can also increase the risk of skin cancer. The intensity of UVB rays depends on factors like location, altitude, and time of year.
UVC rays, on the other hand, are completely absorbed by the atmosphere and don’t reach the Earth’s surface, so the risk they pose is minimal. The UV radiation that affects us most is
primarily UVA, with a smaller amount of UVB.
Lastly, it is important to note that even while it might not always feel hot outside, UV exposure can still damage your skin even on overcast days. That’s why daily protection is essential, no matter the forecast.
Protection First
It’s a myth that glowing skin comes from hours in the sun. In reality, too much exposure can lead to irritation, dryness, and long-term damage, and there’s nothing radiant about that. So it is extremely important to apply SPF consistently throughout the day in order to protect our skin. When looking for Sun Screen and sun protection products, it is important to choose the correct ones. In order to get protection from the sun, products need to be SPF30 and above. This is so they guard against UVB, which are the rays that give you sunburn. As well as this, a high-level UVA protection rating of four stars or more is crucial.
Don't Forget Your Lips
Your lips are one of the most delicate areas of skin, and they’re often the first to feel dry or
sunburnt. That’s why SPF lip protection is key, especially in summer. Our Golden Hour SPF Lip Oil is designed to do both, protect against the sun while delivering the glossy, glass-like finish you want from a summer lip. It’s hydrating and free of that heavy, sticky feeling.
The Golden Glow Routine
Here’s how we’re prepping our sun-protected glow this summer:
Exfoliate– Buff away dull skin with the Golden Hour Shimmer Scrub, revealing a smooth,
radiant base.
Lather– Gently cleanse with our Golden Hour Shower Gel, leaving a soft veil of shimmer
behind.
Protect - Apply a broad-spectrum SPF of at least 30 across all exposed areas.
Glow– Massage in our Shimmer Body Oil with SPF 30 for instant hydration and an extra layer of protection.
Shine– Swipe on our SPF Lip Oil to keep lips glossy and guarded.
Refresh– Finish with a spritz of Golden Glow Spray Hair and Body Mist for a final burst of
shimmering radiance.
How much to apply
Many people do not apply enough sunscreen, which means they are not getting the full
protection they need. To ensure you are properly protecting your skin, it is good to know how much to use. Adults are recommended to use around 6 to 8 teaspoons of sunscreen to cover their whole body. Applying sunscreen too thinly lowers its effectiveness, so don’t be shy with it! And if you are worried that you are not using quite enough sunscreen, you could always go for a higher SPF for extra peace of mind.
Reapply
A key thing to remember is that SPF should be reapplied every two hours, especially after
swimming, sweating, or towel-drying. Our Golden Hour products with SPF are designed for
everyday wear, ideal for day-to-day protection during brunch, strolls, and sunset dinners. But if you’re planning extended time under direct sunlight (like beach days or outdoor adventures), be sure to pair them with your full sun care routine, including a high-SPF sunscreen and protective clothing.
Cover up
Even with SPF, one of the most effective ways to protect your skin is to simply stay covered
during peak sun hours. This is so that your skin does not make direct contact with the sun. When you are strutting around this summer, think lightweight, breathable fabrics, sun hats, and sunglasses. These items are not just fashionable items; they help shield your skin from unnecessary UV exposure. Think of it as stylish sun armour, adding an extra layer of care to your glow routine.
Wrapping up
Glowing and protecting your skin are not mutually exclusive; in fact, they go hand in hand. With the Golden Hour Collection, you can enjoy that radiant, sunlit look while giving your skin and hair the nourishing care they deserve. So, no matter what you do this summer, remember: the most beautiful glow is one that feels good too.
